Heat is supplied by means of a Boiler, Tankless Hot Water Heater or through an indirect means using a hot water tank. The lack of standard installation practices in the past means there are now a multitude of hydronic systems throughout the province. Some of these systems have been well designed and properly installed, most however are not.

This recently began to change as Hydronic Certification courses for Hydronic Installers and Hydronic Designers began to emerge. More and more juristictions are requiring Certification for Installers and Designers for installation of new systems and the replacement of old systems.
The purpose for the Hydronic Certification is to ensure Hydronic systems are properly designed for the structure they are required to heat. Along with proper design the need for a structural heat loss calculation combined with proper installation practices are important. It was common practice in the past for the "Bigger is better" philosophy when choosing a boiler. As boiler technology evolved so too did the design of the heating system whether it be radiant slab, radiant floor, baseboard or hydronic air handler systems. So choosing a certified and experienced professional will ensure you have a quality system, ensuring peace of mind.

Equally important once the Hydronic System has been installed, set up and properly balanced for the structure, is to set up a system maintenance package. As with all gas burning appliances, boilers need to be maintained on a regular basis. In addition the boiler system fluid dynamics are equally important. Fluid PH, turbidity and TDS (total dissolved solids) are some of the areas to pay attention to. Glycol freeze protection is important when snow melt and garage heating packages are part of the hydronic system.
